Artworks developing from my experiences as artist in residence at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt.Coot-tha are starting to develop more experimental layering in paper. Layering techniques form a core in my painting practice, I was keen to explore the potential of layering in paper during my residency. This idea seems very apt in response to observations in the gardens; nature is deeply layered.

What a beautiful buttery background colour. Is it layers of paper or paint?
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan,
ReplyDeletethe background is paint and a layer of cut transparent paper, a little hard to capture in this image.
Thanks for the lovely comment on Sea Reflections, Nicola!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see an artist's progress and the things that sparks one's inspiration! Glorious shapes of leaves. How do you keep the paper so flat?
Thanks Novi,
ReplyDeleteThe paper is 300gsm, so stays reasonably flat.
Nicola, I'm so enjoying the exquisite forms you find in your journey directly from nature to the page or canvas. It does translate for me into the hauntingly beautiful fact of the infinite to be found if one goes beyond surface seeing.
