The Japanese Garden & Work in progress

I headed to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt. Coot-tha late last week, with family members visiting from Melbourne. September seems to be a wonderful time to visit the gardens, with many plants in flower or shooting new growth, and that special warm Spring light that glows at this time. We walked through the Japanese Garden, the same feeling of calm and order that I experienced working here during last year enveloped me again. It's hard to put into words, but something in the clipped form, space and order feels good, there is a sense of respect amongst the control.

I have been working on some new pieces for an upcoming group exhibition at Goulburn Regional Art Gallery. Japanese Story brings together works by artists who have been influenced by Japanese culture. Artists include Kaye Faulkner, Lois Johnson, myself, and Astro Boy paraphernalia from Fiona Hammond's collection. Japanese Story will be on show from 8th - 22nd December 2010.

This piece is in it's early stages with elements of form and texture starting to develop.
