Susan Buret and I will be artists in residence at Montsalvat in Eltham Victoria in October 2011 where we will continue exploring our dialogue about weather.
Plant-Life Solo Exhibition. Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland - July 2010.
The South-east Queensland region is one of the most biodiverse in Australia; the region is also experiencing strong population growth. I am interested in the role people play in shaping habitat. How do we balance competition between conservation and development to maintain natural heritage values?
During 2010 my research is focused on land within the Redland City Council boundaries. Artworks resulting from this project will be shown in an exhibition titled 'Plant-Life' opening at Redland Art Gallery in July 2010.
My Book, Layers of Life, features full colour photography of observations and artworks developed during my nine months Artist-in-Residence at Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt.Coot-tha. Monthly chapters present seasonal highlights in the Australian Plant Communities, with accompanying chapters featuring visual inspiration from the Japanese, Temperate Region and Arid Region gardens. Published in 2009 using Blurb services, click on the image above to see a preview of the book.
Nicola Moss is an Australian artist based on the Gold Coast. By observing patterns, connections and cycles within the ecology of landscapes, Moss's works interpret the relationships between habitat and inhabitants. Centred on the Australian environment, Moss invites the viewer to consider the dependant nature of the food chain and our own place in that structure.
Exhibiting in solo and group shows throughout Australia, Nicola has been a selected finalist in several national competitions and has worked on many public and private art commission projects, including works for Holy Spirit Private Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital and Mater Mother's Hospital, Brisbane. In September 2008, Nicola was commissioned as design artist for a public art mosaic project at Mt.Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, Brisbane, unveiled in July 2009.
